Technology, Books & Backpacks: Picking Up Resources for School

Lea este correo electrónico en español.

This year, we’re distributing a digital device and a backpack with books and school supplies to each student.

Backpacks will be distributed at school on August 26 and August 27, as will WiFi hot spots and campus passes for families that requested them. Find more information below.

Please read this entire message—it contains a lot of important information!

Technology

We are sorry to report that digital devices—iPads and Chromebook tablets and laptops—won’t arrive in time for the first day of school, on August 31.

WiFi Hot Spots & Interim Laptops

Laptops from last year are available to students who need them for remote learning until new devices arrive. WiFi hot spots are available to families that don’t have reliable internet connections. Both will be distributed at our pickup events.

Request an interim laptop or a WiFi hot spot here by August 24 at 10:00 a.m. to pick up your device on August 26 or August 27.

If you asked for a hot spot during enrollment, it will be ready for you at our pickup events; there’s no need to request one again.

We ask that you request a laptop only if your child needs one. You may request a laptop for each Creative Minds student in your family, if needed.

New digital devices, for all students, will be distributed at a pickup event after the school year begins. We’ll share more information in the coming weeks.

We are very sorry that new devices won’t be ready for the first day of school; we offer no excuses, only apologies. Our team will do everything possible to make sure that all students are online for the first day of remote learning.

Questions & Concerns

If you have questions about technology, please email Andy Charrier at andy.charrier@creativemindspcs.org or text him at (833) 297-4024.

If you have any concerns about visiting the school twice, for two separate pickup events, please email Heather Hesslink at frontdesk@creativemindspcs.org. Or call her at (202) 588-0370 ext. 112. She will work with you to find a solution.

Backpacks: Books & School Supplies

Our backpacks are Ready-to-Learn Adventure Kits adorned with (we think) pretty cool designs and containing books and supplies that students will need on the first day of school.

Pick up your child’s backpack at one of our events:

  • Wednesday, August 26, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 27, 1:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

You’re welcome to pick up backpacks at any time, during either event. To keep our events running safely and smoothly, we’re recommending the pickup times below; if you have more than one child at Creative Minds, please choose a time that corresponds with the grade of your older child.

  • Preschool: August 26, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  • Kindergarten–2nd Grade: August 26, 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
  • 3rd–4th Grades: August 27, 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
  • 5th–6th Grades: August 27, 3:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • 7th–8th Grades: August 27, 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

If you’re unable to attend either event, please email Heather Hesslink at frontdesk@creativemindspcs.org or call her at (202) 588-0370 ext. 112.

Pickup: Safety

Our distribution events will happen outdoors; drivers will not need to leave their cars. Everyone two years and older must wear a mask on campus; this includes community members in their vehicles.

All pickup procedures have been designed to maintain social distancing, which our staff will enforce.

Pickup: Procedures

No matter how you’re traveling to campus, be prepared to show your campus pass or government-issued ID at the gate. Gates will remain open for the duration of our pickup events.

Driving onto Campus: Enter through Harewood Gate and get into the carpool lane. At the main entrance, you’ll sign an acknowledgement form from your car and open your trunk; a staff member will place your child’s backpack inside.

Walking or Bicycling onto Campus: Enter through Eagle Gate and proceed to the grassy area next to the side entrance to the school building, where staff will be waiting at tables. You’ll sign an acknowledgement form and a staff member will retrieve your child’s backpack.
