4th Grade Visits Chinese Embassy 🇨🇳

What a special day for Creative Minds!

Yesterday, our fourth-grade Mandarin students visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Washington, DC to celebrate International Chinese Language Day. The event, themed “Chinese: Sparking Colorful Dreams,” brought together educators, performers, and students from around the world to celebrate Chinese language and culture.

A highlight for our school—our Head of School, Candice Bobo, was invited to attend and share remarks on behalf of our community. We were also grateful that one of our 4th-grade parents joined us at the embassy to share in the experience.

Students had a great time exploring hands-on activities like calligraphy and paper cutting, trying new snacks, and learning Tai Chi and martial arts movements! They also had the opportunity to meet and connect with students from other schools who are also learning Mandarin, which made the experience even more special.

They were especially engaged during the live performances. Many were really struck by a young performer from China—they even had a chance to speak with him, give him kudos, and take a photo. It was exciting for them to see someone their age on stage. They also had the chance to be in a space with artists and professionals, which made the experience feel even more real. A few of our students even earned prizes for participating in a challenge—definitely a highlight for them.

Our Mandarin teacher, Mr. Yuan, shared that at the end of the visit, he spoke with embassy staff, who spoke very highly of our students. They noted their active participation, curiosity, and respect at the cultural exhibition stations.

Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible—including our Mandarin teacher for organizing the trip, Ms. Bobo for representing Creative Minds, and our students for representing our school so well. Thank you to our families for your continued support.

📸 We’re happy to share a few photos from the day!
