Veterans Day: Thank You to Our Neighbors

On this Veterans Day we extend a very special thank you to our neighbors, the residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home.

The AFRH was authorized by Congress as the United States Soldiers’ Home, in 1851. The home opened with a single cottage and one “inmate” in what was, at the time, rural Washington.

Today, Creative Minds is fortunate to be a part of the vibrant AFRH campus and to spend time with and learn from its residents. Our robotics team stopped by the home to share their practice and to hear from veterans about their own work in engineering. Every Halloween, CMI’s lower school students visit the AFRH to show off their costumes as part of our Fall Fest parade. Middle school students delivered handmade cards to AFRH residents on November 8, thanking them for their service.

We are grateful to our neighbors for inviting us into their home, for sharing their lives with our students, and for serving our country.
