Urban Adventure Squad Is Back in the Garden

Urban Adventure Squad kicked off its garden-education programs at Creative Minds International Public Charter School on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, by welcoming dozens of students to the garden during recess, Genius Hour, and middle school science class. UAS reports that it was an incredible transformation in just one afternoon, thanks to the strong hands of gardeners of all ages who pulled weeds, turned soil, and planted.

Throughout October, UAS will help us bring our school garden back to life so that we can use it as a year-round community space. Students will learn to identify weeds and plants and explore how to touch plants safely. They’ll use garden tools under the supervision of staff and discover how keeping the garden free of trash supports the health of local waterways.

In previous years with Urban Adventure Squad, students planted carrots, kale, and radishes; pursued hands-on projects on storm-water runoff; and harvested crops for a green tomato food-prep challenge.

We’re excited about this new season of outdoor learning in the CMI garden.
