Newsletter 4: Reopening & More on the High School Fair

Reopening Update

We were delighted to see so many families at our online meetings with Chuck Jackson on Saturday and Tuesday. Watch a recording of the first meeting on YouTube.

Equally delightful is the number of family members who completed our survey on in-person learning—more than 280 respondents in all! Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback.

Our next email about reopening will be sent the week of November 3, not October 26, as originally announced. As always, we appreciate your patience.

In that next reopening email, we’ll share our decision on offering in-person classes in 2020 (before winter break) and the data and survey feedback that factored into the decision.

High School Fair: October 29

Is your 7th- or 8th-grade child excited about high school? What does your child want to explore and discover?

At our online High School Fair, 7th- and 8th-graders can learn about the programs and communities of area high schools like McKinley Tech, Thurgood Marshall Academy, and Bard College Early High School DC. See a complete list of schools here.

The fair happens Thursday, October 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Teachers will share more information. Please email Tara LaCroix with any questions: tara.lacroix@creativemindspcs.org.

Student Health

Though we’re not together in person, immunization compliance and up-to-date health certificates are still important.

The Universal Health Certificate is due by November 2. Oral Health Assessments must be submitted by January 31, 2021.

Please make sure your child’s medical records are current with Creative Minds, and email Heather Hesslink and her team with any questions: frontdesk@creativemindspcs.org.

Communications Reminder

We’ve been supplementing our family communications with short text messages about the information we send by email.

You can still opt in to receiving text messages, if you haven’t opted in already, by texting Y or Yes to 67587.

Seesaw has become another platform for posting announcements to families, and the Seesaw app is a convenient way to stay connected to these updates. Learn more here.
