Exploring STEM & Preparing for High School

On December 20, 2019, David Hesslink, coordinator, baseball operations, with the Seattle Mariners and an alum of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, joined Creative Minds middle school boys to bring STEM topics to life.

Hesslink and our students explored the STEM of food, sports, movies, and video games. They talked about the connections among these subjects and how these topics relate to academic studies in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Our goal was to help CMI middle-schoolers look ahead to high school and think about how classes in physics, calculus, chemistry, statistics, and geometry are relevant to their lives and can prepare them for exciting careers.

Learn more about David Hesslink, his baseball career, and how he’s applying his STEM skills to a job in a sport he loves.
